Southern Shores Vacation Rentals

In addition, during these seasons, the roads, stores, and restaurants are the least crowded.

During the winter months, the weather is cooler and there are fewer visitors in town. However, the winter provides peace and tranquility on the secluded beaches and there are still sunshine-filled days. In Southern Shores, there are a good number of locals who live there year-round, but any time is still a wonderful time to visit.

Southern Shores does not have a big elaborate story of how it got its name, like a lot of the towns on the Outer Banks. A land developer by the name of Frank Stick chose the name and it stuck!

There are four beach accesses in Southern Shores with lifeguards, but all are only open to residents and guests. None of these accesses have bathhouses or showers. Lifeguards are on duty from Memorial Day through Labor Day from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Southern Shores is different from other places because most of it is residential. Thus, you will find a smaller number of rental homes. This will allow for a quieter and more private vacation. The quaint and small town does welcome guests and visitors to stay in their Southern Shores vacation rental and enjoy the public beach accesses and close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. There is also a walking trail that extends the entire length of the town.

Southern Shores is the perfect location for your Outer Banks, North Carolina vacation. It is in a central location allowing easy access to both the northern beaches and southern beaches of the Outer Banks. Head north to the town of Duck where you will find local shops and delicious dining. Even further north is Corolla. Visit the Corolla Lighthouse and the historic Whalehead Club.

If you take a turn off Route 12 south which runs through Southern Shores and head down Croatan Hwy, you will work your way through the most populated areas of Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head. In Kitty Hawk, you will find the Kitty Hawk Pier. Further south, you will run into more dining options, stores, miniature golf, and other activities of the Outer Banks. You will love being so close to so many things to do!

For the golfers in your group, Southern Shores is close to several golf courses. About five miles over the Wright Brothers Memorial Bridge going into Currituck County, you will come to The Point Golf Course and Kilmarlic Golf Club. Head towards Kitty Hawk and you will find the Seascape Golf Course - about five miles.

Many visitors take advantage of the access to the ocean in Southern Shores. You will see many kayakers, stand-up paddle boarders, and windsurfers out on the water.
