The house was delightful. It was a girl cousins (4 adults) trip and the location was perfect. We had plenty of room and the house was very well appointed with everything we needed to enjoy eating in! The only thing we would suggest is stronger trash bags!! Thank you!

We loved the pool! The pool furniture was clean, comfortable and seemed new and very sturdy. The entire house was up to date and so so clean. The beach chairs and wagon were so handy to take to the beach. Your kitchen is beyond well stocked for cooking and so many dishes for our family of 8! Such a perfect house for 8 people to have their own space and still eat together at the big dining room table! The live music at the nearby bar is a huge bonus in the evenings (we actually went there one night for drinks) and Tullio’s Bakery (walking distance) is a must. Gluten free options and so delicious! The air conditioner worked very well for as hot as it was outside. Beds were very comfortable and the couches were too. I can’t praise this house enough. We were happy about everything. Your decorations and decor are so nice and we really enjoyed our first outer banks experience!

The location of the house and the house was great. Walking distance to the city and most of the attractions. Stores, bakeries, cafes, ice cream shops, you name it, right across the street. The house was very nicely decorated and set up on the inside. Walking distance to the beach, making it very convenient. The pool and spa was amazing and made the trip 10x better. Overall, great house for a family vacation when looking to explore the Outer Banks area.

We had a wonderful time at Hero’s Retreat in beautiful Duck.The house was comfortable and the pool/hot tub was perfect! We opted to rent the golf cart and we are glad we did so because it helped tremendously getting back and fourth from the beach. We would absolutely rent again.

Heroes Retreat
I want to start off by saying that this property is fantastic, as advertised, and a magical place that we will surely return to visit. 5 stars overall! There were only a few very minor issues with the door code at check in, and response times on what the new codes were over the weekend. It was nothing major and certainly didn’t impact our stay in a major way. We loved it, and would love to come back.

This is a perfect cottage. Great location within close walking distance to the Duck playground and town meeting area., pizza and ice cream shops. The house is nicely decorated and landscaped. We had a 4 night stay in peak season which allowed us to skip the usual busy traffic check in days.

This home is private, well-decorated and the location is walkable to everything! Slight hiccup at check-in when the code didn't work however the host responded and rest it immediately. The other reviews mention music from the bar next door however it ends promptly at closing (which is early in my opinion) and never once bothered us or affected our sleeping hours. The house has everything you need, and is the perfect size for a family with space for everyone (perfect for families who don't need the mega-sized, multi-family house). The pool is perfect, hot tub was a welcome addition to cooler nights and we loved having so much privacy. We were able to walk to every shop and restaurant, as well as the Sound, boardwalk and beach. Use a wagon or cart for the beach (they provide a small one) as we couldn't find parking in the community near beach access, but it's a pretty easy walk if you don't have to carry a ton of stuff. We would stay here again!

Hero’s retreat was the perfect spot for a relaxing week in Duck. Beach, boardwalk and all the shops were a short walk away. We loved the puzzles and games for rainy days, books and coffee on the decks, and of course we made use of the grill and hot tub!

The house location is incredibly convenient to the boardwalk. As other reviewers mentioned the noise from live music can be quite loud but it didn’t bother us. The golf cart rental was perfect for getting to and from the beach, just need to make a friend at the beach access as there is no golf cart parking on the road. The house is very well stocked with anything you’d need to make meals. Hot tub is nice and clean and the private pool is great! House is well kept and even had games stocked!

Great house in a super location! Boardwalk is right across the street and the beach is a lovely half mile walk. Our family of six fit perfectly and we loved the hot tub and pool. Downsides were dirty porches/entryway and waiting four days (?!) to get access to the golf cart we had paid for in advance. There are stairs everywhere inside and out of the house. The live band at the bar next door each night was a great addition.

Loved this home! Very clean and cozy. Justbe prepared for the 3 flights of stairs for every outing, especially with small children, I’d recommend bringing a baby gate. Other than that, GREAT stay!

The house was really nice. Everything was clean and worked. My kids really enjoyed the pool are. I would recommend the pool heater if your going outside the summer months. We stayed the third week of May and temperature dipped down into the 50s a couple nights. My family and I really liked that we could walk from the house to Duck in less than 5 minutes. This made getting around Duck without a car very easy. The house is next to a restaurant that has live musics to 10pm a couple nights a week so it can be a bit noise my if you have little kids. Despite that, I would definitely recommend this place for your stay.

This beautiful home has been tastefully updated and provided more than enough space for our family of 5. The pool and hot tub were amazing and so relaxing. There is a pizza place and bakery right around the corner (Tullio’s) that made grabbing a quick bite to eat or snack very convenient . The pizza was delicious and we enjoyed the cupcakes and sandwiches from the bakery. The temps were in the high 60s/low 70s so we only utilized the pool in the afternoons, but it was still warm enough to enjoy. Even though we were close to the main road, it felt secluded and the noise level overall was low. Definitely recommend for a family trip. Really enjoyed our stay.

My family had a great time at Hero’s Retreat! The house was very clean. It exceeded our expectations.
The location of the house is prefect for walking to the cute town of Duck.
Each night it took only a few minutes to walk to the sound side boardwalk for the most beautiful sunset.

The location was ideal for us as it was walking distance to both the boardwalk and the ocean......very convenient to town which we preferred versus having to drive. This was our first visit to Duck and well defined be back again. Our stay at Heroes Retreat was the perfect getaway for our family. The house is really conveniently located with a small selection of shops and restaurants about two minutes walk from the house. The house itself is clean, spacious and welcoming. The layout was perfect for our family getaway (3 kids, 4, 10, 11). The pool was the shining star of the trip for us. It is private, gated, clean and very safe. During this time of COVID it was important to find a place where we could all just chill and relax and not feel the need to find things to do. Our kids spent so much time in the pool, from morning till night. The bar nearby had live music each night which at times was quite loud. We enjoyed being in the pool late and listening to the music, but it was loud at times when trying to put our little one to sleep. Inside the house has all the amenities we needed for our stay. The beds were comfortable, tv’s in each room and lots of games and puzzles (we only found these on the last night) stocked in the living room. The beach is about a 10 minute walk from the house. We drove down and dropped our supplies and kids off and then my husband walked back from the house. We all walked home to the house afterwards so it’s totally doable. We found being closest to the food and necessities was more important. Tullios bakery was a favorite. We loved the fresh donuts in the morning and ordered a tray of home cooked pizza for one of our dinners. Highly recommend. We also really enjoyed the Cookshak Fried Chicken for dinner one night. Growlers to Go has an excellent selection of NC beer and a lovely select of wines. The ice cream shop was a hit with the kids. We’re really glad we found this property and would highly recommend for a visit to Duck.

Wonderful house, amazing amenities. Terrific warm pool and hot hot tub. Handy laundry room was heavily used after all the trips to the beach and swimming in the pool. The grill was convenient as well. Recommend the LSV/golf cart rental for beach excursions because it's a long walk with all the stuff. The house is VERY close to the town/boardwalk which is good and bad (loud music at the Roadside Bar and Grill could keep people awake).

Perfect Location
This was my first time visiting OBX. I really enjoyed my time in the area. My friends/family loved our stay at Heroes Retreat. It was beautiful and super clean. My favorite part was having our own pool and hot tub as well as being in walking distance ( a little less than 0.5 mile) from the beach. The neighborhood was quiet and safe. I would definitely stay here again.

Extremely nice and super fun!
We had the greatest family vacation in Duck staying at Hero’s Retreat. The house is very nice with all of the creature comforts of home. Granite, tile baths, hardwood. Beds were super comfy and plenty of space for our family of 5. The pool and hot tub are the icing on the cake. Beach access is just a short half mile walk. Their is plenty of shops within walking distance of the house. We absolutely loved Hero’s Retreat and plan on rebooking again next year. Thank you to the owners. Your style in decor and little “homey” details make this place our favorite yet.

We had a pretty long drive, I was exhausted, the baby was losing his s***, my 2 and 4yo’s were trying to play in the street, and the wife (in our other vehicle) was 20 mins away getting groceries. The code that Airbnb gave me didn’t work, and I had a sinking feeling in my stomach. Did I hit the rare Airbnb scam? Was the money gone, leaving me with no place to stay? I quickly circled the house and didn’t *see* another coded door. There certainly was one, but to my credit I had a screaming baby in my ear and the other two utes were intent on running circles in the street in front of the house. I called the hotline and it was after hours, but it still only took 15ish mins for 3 people to get back to me, to include the owner (THANK YOU!).
The only reason I’m giving this a 4/5, is because I think a small sign saying the Airbnb code was to the door at the back would have helped. The “front door” is actually to a laundry room, and not the real front door. I’m not used to beach houses designed like this, apparently it’s common that the lower level isn’t a main part of the house. I was trying to get into the laundry room, and when I checked around the house I didn’t go all the way to the back door to see if there was a code on it. The response was awesome and I think 4 people had to help me screw my head on the right way.
