From historic sites where aviation history was made to the location of the first English settlement attempts, the Outer Banks offers a unique perspective on the American story.

April 18th - Dare A250 Faire:
Liberty, Legacy, & Liftoff in the Land of Beginnings

Date: April 18, 2026 (Saturday) at 11:00 AM to 7:00PM 
Location: Downtown Manteo, NC from 11AM to 4PM. Roanoke Island Festival Park from 3:30PM to 7:00PM. 
Cost: Free! Tickets are free, but registration is required. Registration will open on March 9, 2026. 


Dare County and the National Park Service invite you to attend the Dare A250 Life, Liberty and Liftoff Faire on Saturday, April 18, 2026, in Manteo, a lasting symbol of American courage, innovation, and discovery.

This free, all-day patriotic festival celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with the theme "Liberty, Legacy, and Liftoff in the Land of Beginnings." The event honors the history and spirit of Dare County and the Outer Banks through music, performances, food, vendors, and community celebration.

Local organizations, artists, and volunteers will come together to recognize 250 years of culture and heritage in Dare County. Event features include live music, family-friendly activities, historical storytelling, food and drink, vendors, art displays, and a patriotic show. 

This is a ticketed event.  Make sure to sign up to get your free tickets starting March 9th! 

Note: On 2/27, the location changed from the Wright Brothers National Monument to downtown Manteo.

89th Season
The Lost Colony

Dates: June 4 - August 22, 2026
Location: Waterside Theatre, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Manteo

Now in its 89th anniversary season, The Lost Colony is a beloved Outer Banks tradition and one of the longest-running outdoor dramas in the country. It remains a must-see summer experience.

The production tells the true story of the mysterious disappearance of the 1587 Roanoke Colony, bringing history to life through powerful performances, stunning costumes, and impressive special effects. Performed at the beautiful Waterside Theatre at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, the show offers sunset views, star-filled skies, and optional backstage tours, and free Native Pre-Shows on select nights.

Fourth of July Celebrations

The 2026 Fourth of July takes on special significance as America celebrates its 250th anniversary!

Corolla Independence Day Celebration
Date: July 3, 2026 (Friday) starting at 5:00 PM
Location: Historic Corolla Park, 1100 Club Drive
Features: Live music, food vendors, family activities, fireworks over Currituck Sound at 9:00 PM

Duck Fourth of July Parade
Date: July 3, 2026 (Friday) at 9:00 AM
Location: One-mile parade route beginning on Scarborough Lane
Features: Community celebration at Duck Town Park following parade with live music, refreshments, and awards


Manteo Island Farm Independence Day Celebration
Date: July 4, 2026 (Friday) at 9:00 AM til 3:00 PM
Location: Island Farm in Manteo
Features: Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the Farm's grassy lawn, and continue celebrations of the nation's birth with musket-fire, traditional games, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, and much more. Attendance to Island Farms is $11 and children 3 and under are free.

A250 Passport Program

Dare County will kick off a new way to experience its rich history in January 2026 with the launch of the Dare A250 Passport Program. Created to celebrate America's 250th anniversary, the program invites locals and visitors to explore 13 historic sites that highlight why the area is known as the "Land of Beginnings." From early explorers on Roanoke Island and heroic lifesaving crews to the Wright Brothers' first flight, these locations showcase moments that helped shape both Dare County and the nation. The passport stops span the entire county, offering an engaging look at local history through museums, landmarks, and cultural sites. All 13 historic sites are located minutes from a KEES Vacations rental!

At each stop, visitors can scan a QR code to earn a digital stamp and track their progress online. Participants who complete the passport will receive a certificate recognizing their involvement in Dare County's A250 celebration. The program runs from January 1 through November 18, 2026. The passport offers a fun, self-guided way to connect with local history, whether you are visiting these sites for the first time or seeing familiar places from a new perspective.
